新世界グループが運営するコンビニエンスストアチェーン「Eマート24」は、飽和状態にある国内市場でのシェア拡大に苦戦する中、海外進出の一環として2024年前半にカンボジアに1号店を出店する。
同社は木曜日、ハンリム・アーキテクチャー・グループおよびカンボジアのセゾン・ブラザー・ホールディングと、カンボジアでの事業展開に関する3者協定に調印した。
同社の戦略は、Hallim Architecture GroupとSaisons Brother Holdingを含むジョイントベンチャーと共同でマスターフランチャイズ契約を確立することである。Emart24は、「Emart24 Cambodia」（仮称）と名付けられた合弁会社にブランドと運営モデルをライセンス供与し、その見返りとしてロイヤリティを受け取る。このようなアプローチは、現地の事情に精通した現地パートナーが主要な運営面を管理することで、国際展開に伴うリスクを軽減することを目的としている。
Eマート24は、韓国のコンビニエンスストアチェーンとして初めてカンボジア市場に参入する。同社は、今後5年以内に店舗数を徐々に100店舗まで拡大することを想定している。
Emart24のチェ・ウンヨン副社長によると、「私たちの焦点は、カンボジアでEmart24を成功した存在として確立することであり、同時に様々な世界市場への参入機会を探ることです」。
この拡大は、韓流に後押しされて韓国のコンビニエンスストア・ブランドが東南アジアで人気を集めている傾向を反映したもので、しばしば地元の消費者が韓国料理を体験するための入り口として機能している。Eマート24と他の韓国系チェーンGS25とCUは現在、ベトナム、マレーシア、シンガポール、モンゴル、そして間もなくカザフスタンを含む東南アジア市場で営業している。
Eマート24は、カンボジアの経済的ポテンシャルの高さを今回の進出決定の理由に挙げている。
