日本とカンボジアは、標準化されたQRコード決済サービスの相互利用について協議する予定だ。

日本政府は、日本の標準化されたQR決済システムを海外に普及させるため、東南アジア諸国連合加盟国との協力を拡大したいと考えている。経済産業省とカンボジア国立銀行は近く協力覚書に調印し、両国のQRコード決済システムの相互運用に向けた情報交換や技術面での協力を開始する。両国は、2025年大阪・関西万博が開幕する2025年4月までにサービスを開始することを目指している。

この計画では、両国がそれぞれ標準化されたQRコード決済システムを利用することになっている。日本は、2020年に開始された日本のQRと呼ばれるQRコード決済システムを利用する。このシステムでは、PayPay、楽天ペイ、Dペイメントなど、1つのQRコードで複数の決済サービスを利用できる。この取り組みにより、日本のQRコード決済サービスが海外でも利用できるようになる一方、訪日外国人は自国のキャッシュレス決済サービスを利用できるメリットがある。

万博ではキャッシュレス決済のみが利用できる。したがって、この取り組みは、万博を訪れる外国人観光客にとって便利な取引システムを構築することも目的としている。

東南アジア諸国連合地域では電子決済が普及しており、全取引の約20％を占めている（日本では約10％）。

カンボジアでは、2022年に国立銀行がQRコード決済の統一規格「KHQR」を立ち上げた。最近の調査では、カンボジア国民の30％以上がQRコード決済を利用している。

日本とインドネシアは昨年12月、同様の取り組みに関する覚書に調印し、すでに協議を開始している。
