「私たちの観客は、地元の住民やカンボジア人が中心です。ですから、観光が直接私たちに影響を与えることはありません。しかし、一般的な経済の下降は、カンボジアの芸術にとって特に厳しいものです。会場や観客からの支援がなければ、コビド以来そうであったように、アーティストは苦境に立たされ続けるでしょう。」とジャワ・クリエイティブ・カフェの創設者でアーティスティック・ディレクターのダナ・ラングロワは言う。

「カンボジアのアート市場は今のところ停滞しており、観光業の復活もまだ好影響を与えるには至っていません」と、Can’ Artの創設者兼経営者であるスン・ウン氏は言う。彼女は、一般的にアーティストがギャラリーから良い取引を受けていないと感じている。

「アート市場は徐々に成長していますが、多くの非クメール人アーティストがその空間を支配しています。クメール人が経営しているギャラリーはほとんどありません。しかし、チャン・ディナ、ディン・アート・ギャラリー、ササ・プロジェクトのような素晴らしい例外もあります」と、ピ・ペット・ピ・ギャラリーの元従業員、リズ・ヒーリーは言う。

かつて自分のギャラリーを経営していたヒーリーは、経済的な困難の痛みを感じている。「ギャラリーを運営するための経費は大きく、多くのアーティストが自分のコミットメントとギャラリーにかかる費用を理解していないことが問題になっています。多くのアーティストは、ギャラリーが要求するコミッションと同じだけのコミッションを取るマネージャーに代理人になってもらっています」と彼女は言う。

彼女はまた、王国のアート市場に対する政府の継母のような扱いを嘆いている。「観光局も芸術文化局も、現代アートシーンにはあまり関心がないようです。クメール・ルージュ以降のものは、観光客の耳には届かないようです。私のギャラリーや他のギャラリーを支えてくれたのは、クメール人と外国人の素晴らしい地元の人々です。クメール人アーティストたちは、助成金がはるかに利用しやすい海外市場に目を向けているのです」と、彼女は苦渋をにじませながら語った。
