カンボジアは、ブロックチェーン・ベースの中央銀行デジタル通貨パートナーシップを導入することで、観光客向けの支払いオプションを拡大する予定だ。この動きは、カンボジア経済において観光業が果たす重要な役割を認識し、観光業を近代化する同国の戦略の一環である。
カンボジアの観光部門は、2023年の最初の9ヶ月間で国際観光客の到着数が顕著に増加し、その数は前年のほぼ4倍になった。この急増は、特にモバイル決済において、外国人観光客により良いサービスを提供するために決済システムをアップグレードすることの重要性を浮き彫りにしている。

カンボジア国立銀行は、こうしたデジタル通貨の進展を促進する上で重要な役割を果たしている。

まず、中央銀行は、カンボジア国内のKHQR加盟店での支払いに、観光客がクメール・リエルの銀行口座にリンクされた電子財布を使用できるようにした。

2022年半ばにカンボジア国立銀行によって開始されたKHQRは、国内の小売決済とASEAN諸国内の国境を越えた取引のために設計されたシステムである。Bakongが運営する様々なモバイル・バンキング・アプリケーションと互換性のある統一QRコードを利用している。

さらに、身元確認・本人確認(KYC)の基準を完全に満たしたBakong 中央銀行デジタル通貨のユーザーとクメール・リエルの銀行口座保有者は、カンボジア国立銀行がサポートするローカルウォレットやアプリを使って、アリペイのグローバル加盟店で取引ができるようになった。この開発により、現地通貨の利用が促進されることが期待される。
カンボジア国立銀行の総裁であるチア・セレイ博士は、この取り組みについて、「決済が簡単になることで、加盟店は収益が向上し、経済活動の活性化につながります 」とコメントしている。

アント・グループのシニア・バイス・プレジデントであり、アント・インターナショナルのアリペイ・プラス担当責任者であるダグラス・フィーギン氏は、「この提携により、観光客は使い慣れた決済方法を利用できるようになり、利便性が向上する。また、地元企業、特に零細企業にとって、より簡単な買い物が可能になります。」
カンボジアの決済インフラにおけるこれらの進歩は、進化するデジタル経済において地元企業を支援する一方で、外国人観光客の体験を向上させることを目的としている。

カンボジア国立銀行のチア・セレイ博士は、「決済が簡単になることで、商店の収益が向上し、経済活動の活性化につながります」と述べている。
