上野淳駐カンボジア日本大使は、カンボジアの輸出業者に対し、日本市場に輸出するために必要な基準を満たした製品の品質を高めるよう促した。
「カンボジアの日本市場への農産物の輸出はわずかですが、日本はもっと輸入することができます」と、昨日プノンペンのサン＆ムーンホテルで行われたカンボジアと日本の関係に関する円卓会議で述べた。
大使は、日本の公的機関であるODAの下でのカンボジアの農業分野への支援は、民間の投資プロジェクトとは切り離す必要があるとして、交渉の分離を求めた。
「日本の民間企業は、日本への胡椒製品の輸出やカシューナッツ製品の輸出など、カンボジアにいくつかの投資を行っている。」と大使は付け加えた。

我々は、官民ともに日本への輸出を支援し続けています。現在のところ、カンボジアの農産物の日本への輸入は制限されていません。

カンボジアの農産物はASEAN諸国の農産物と変わりません。しかし、問題は輸送やカンボジアでの製品の商標であるという。
カンボジアと日本は、2022年初頭に発効した地域包括的パートナーシップ（RCEP）協定のメンバーであり、日本はカンボジアの主要貿易パートナーのひとつである。

日本貿易振興機構（JETRO）の報告書によると、カンボジアは昨年19.3億ドル相当の製品を日本に輸出し、前年比10.5％増加した。
日本からの輸入額は5億1,500万ドルで、前年同期比11.2％減であった。
日本は、カンボジアが二国間FTAの交渉開始を計画している潜在的な貿易相手国の一つである。両国間で昨年設立された「包括的戦略的パートナーシップ」は、より多くの日本からの投資を誘致し、カンボジア製品により広い市場を開くことが期待されている。
