タイ労働省は、合法的な雇用を促進し、就労目的で入国する外国人労働者の問題を解決するため、カンボジアからの外国人労働者に対する検査と労働許可証の新しい手数料を設定する省令を発表した。具体的には、ビザ料金が2,000バーツから500バーツに、一時滞在申請費用が1,900バーツから500バーツに引き下げられた。
この省令は10月27日の官報公布から15日後の11月10日に施行された。施行期間は4年間。カンボジア、ミャンマー、ベトナム、ラオスの4カ国からタイに入国し、雇用契約または労働者募集に関する覚書に基づいて就労する外国人労働者に適用される。
この措置は、不法移民や労働市場の安定に関する問題に対処することにより、外国人労働者が合法的に雇用され、タイ経済に貢献することを保証することを目的としている。
「この省令は、国の競争力を強化し、コロナ後の経済回復を支援するため、外国人労働者の雇用を規制するという政府のアプローチに沿ったものである。手数料の引き下げは、労働者と雇用者の経済的負担を軽減する手段である。」
外国人労働者管理局の情報によると、9月、タイには合計259万3,439人の外国人労働者がおり、2023年10月3日の内閣決議によると、労働許可証申請提出中の労働者はまだ約100万人いる。
